Ear Surgery
As our any other sense organ, our ears are one of the most important parts of our body, since they are the only audial medium that helps us interact with the world. Any medical, mechanical or cosmetical problem about your ears can turn your life upside-down in many aspects. Inevitably, and thankfully, you can undergo ear surgery.
Apart from all of these facts, cosmetic ear surgery is almost 200 years old. Together with advances in technology, the number of patients has been increasing rapidly.
What is ear surgery?
It is the surgical process where doctors do corrections on your ear shape. The technical name for ear surgery is otoplasty. There are different types of otoplasty that we perform in our clinics. From ear pinning surgery to ear reshaping surgery, ear reconstruction surgery to ear lobe surgery, we maintain a lot of operations.
Additionally, you can find these three options in our clinics, too:
- Elf ear surgery
- Ear reduction surgery
- Ear fold surgery
How does the surgery process work?
As well as many other surgical procedures, an ear surgery operation also requires anaesthesia. For adults, doctors mostly prefer local anaesthesia since the operation is not a big one. For children, who are the most common patients for the surgery, It is more favourable to use general anaesthesia.
Most of the operations require the doctor to make an incision from the back of your ear to operate on the cartilage in it. The doctors can perform any possible addition, extraction or modification of the cartilage. You can have your ears reshaped, reduced, or corrected. Once the operation is finished, your doctor will stitch up the incisions.
The recovery time for an ear correction surgery usually takes about 2 months. After the surgery, you’ll probably suffer from some swelling, aching and paresthesia in or near your operation area. All of these are normal; you don’t need to panic. (In any case, be in touch with your doctor for any extreme or unexpected situation). Mostly, at the end of this 2 months, you’ll get your total hearing back and can have your new ears.
Ear Pinning Surgery
One of the most common types of ear surgery is ear pinning surgery. Many people, especially children, who have prominent ears, don’t like them. You can easily imagine how hard it can be for a child with prominent ears to be in elementary school. With more open-minded parents and conveniences of modern technology, a lot of children are now undergoing ear pinning surgery.
Although the same process is in use for surgical ear pinning, which includes reconstruction of ear cartilage through an incision, there is also an alternative ear pinning method called ear pinning without surgery. Despite its name, this method also requires a semi-surgical operation on ears. The only difference is that there are no incisions. Doctors use sutures (the medical name for stitches) to pin your ear to your head.
Either method is preferable for anybody, adult or child. You can easily overcome your prominent ears problem with any of these two methods.
